Today on the show Bronwyn will be joined by co-host Betsy Jones. Betsy is the management assistant at WaterFire Providence and has been instrumental in helping to coordinate all of the special events coming up at this weekend’s C is for Cure WaterFire Lighting for RI Defeats Hep C.

Our first guest on today’s show are Dr. Lynn Taylor the director of RI Defeats Hep C. In May 2013, Lynn E. Taylor was awarded a Rhode Island Innovation Fellowship entitled, “Rhode Island Defeats Hep C.” She is a viral hepatitis, HIV/AIDS and primary care physician focusing on prevention and treatment of HCV and hepatitis B viruses in vulnerable populations and on the primary care of people living with HIV.

The second guest is singer and actress Rose Weaver. Rose is a sassy jazz singer and narrator, she has been a featured vocalist with the Marian Anderson String Quartet, The Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Conrad Janis and the Beverly Hills Unlisted Jazz Band, she is currently the artist-in-residence at Brown University’s Rites and Reason Theatre, will be playing two sets at WaterFire with her band New Orleans Jazz.

Our final guest today is Dylan Giles the marketing director at Festival Ballet Providence. As part of the events of the C is For Cure: A WaterFire Lighting for RI Defeats Hep C, Festival Ballet Providence senior program students will dance in a free and open performance. The performance will begin around 7:30pm at the Waterplace Park stage.

This mother daughter team will be discussing the idea that you don’t have to be a Gates or a Buffet for your gift to make a difference, the importance of the Charitable giving and how philanthropy fits in your life and estate planning. They will also be discussing RBC’s Blue Water Project, a 10-year global charitable commitment of $50 million to help provide access to drinkable, swimmable, fishable water, now and for future generations. .

In the second half of the show we will be talking all about the PVD Fringe Festival produced  by one of our local theater companies, The Wilbury Theatre Group. Joining us will be the Executive Director of the Wilbury Group Josh Short and performer and comedian Stuart Wilson who will be performing this week at the Fringe Festival.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Corey Oberlander the co-founder of this cutting edge art gallery located in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood on our June 23rd show. Today Barnaby is joined by Lynne McCormack and Kathleen Pletcher who will be discussing their roles supporting the arts in Providence and the upcoming Providence International Arts Festival. Lynne is the director of Providence’s department of Art, Culture + Tourism. In her 16-year tenure as a city arts administrator she has moved through the ranks, from production coordinator to a trusted member of the mayor’s cabinet. Since assuming the director position in 2006, Ms. McCormack has successfully transitioned the department from an office of cultural affairs focused on public programming to a community and economic development agency. Kathleen founded FirstWorks in 2004, transforming the one-night First Night Providence festival into a year-round performing arts and educational organization. With over 25 years experience as an entrepreneur, Kathleen has founded three non-profit arts organizations and formed strategies for organizations across the US. As a presenter, she has developed projects with creative pioneers such as Yo-Yo Ma, Kronos Quartet, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, linking performances of new work with community engagement across Rhode Island.

The first guests on today’s show are Chantal Roche and Gary St. Laurent from WaterFire Providence’s volunteer team. They will be talking about volunteer opportunities at WaterFire Providence and what it takes to produce a full WaterFire event with hundreds of volunteers. They will also discussing some of the other opportunities that occur during the week that make for wonderful team building events for corporations and individuals alike.

Our second guest will be actress and Jazz stylist Rose Weaver, who received the Pell Award for excellence in the Arts in 2000. Currently, Rose is an Artist-In-Residence at Brown University’s Rites and Reason Theatre. She is working with Professor Elmo Terry-Morgan, Artistic Director of Rites & Reason Theatre, Associate Professor, Department of Africana Studies, and Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies, to further develop Rose’s Brown U 2000 thesis play, called Skips in the Record, about a family coping with Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss.

Our final guest is Kota Mizutani, from the Japanese drumming group Gendo Taiko, they will be performing on the stage in Waterplace Park during Saturday’s WaterFire lighting.
