At the lighting on Saturday, Rhode Island Department of Education – RIDE will be recognizing 70 outstanding educators in a ceremony and torch procession, and hosting a “Showcase of Success in Rhode Island” with displays of creative and innovative approaches to education!

Rose Weaver, who is performing at Saturday’s full lighting, will join Bronwyn as co-host. Their first guest will be Jeffrey Osborne, who we are very excited to welcome as a special announcer at this weekend’s opening ceremonies! The Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic is coming to Rhode Island August 8th-9th and we are raffling off some very exciting opportunities to participate in the events as part of our HepCHope.com Passport to a Cure scavenger hunt.

Jeffrey Osborne will make a very special appearance at WaterFire’s opening ceremonies. At 8 p.m. Mr. Osborne will welcome the opening torch procession for RI Defeats Hep C led by Dr. Brian R. Edlin, Dr. Lynn Taylor, and other leaders in the fight against hep C, as well as introduce the Mixed Magic Exult Gospel Choir who will perform on the Basin Stage as part of the opening ceremonies. Mr. Osborne will be speaking again at the WaterFire Music Stage on Steeple Street shortly after 9 p.m.

Next on, Dr. Lynn Taylor will join Bronwyn to speak with Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, Director of the Rhode Island Department of Health. Dr. Alexander-Scott will discuss RIDOH’s initiatives promoting health in Rhode Island, and its relationship to Rhode Island Defeats Hep C.

PVD International Arts Festival Wrap Up with Mayor Jorge Elorza | The Providence VA and the WaterFire Salute to Veterans

Then we will be speaking with Winfield Danielson III and Joanne Cardoza from the Providence VA, they will be discussing their upcoming open house being held from  10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Representatives will be on-hand to provide information about opportunities to serve Veterans, and to provide an opportunities for Veterans from Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts who have not enrolled with the VA to take a brief tour, learn about what we have to offer, and fill out an enrollment application.
